From behind the scenes is the best place to experience a rodeo, in my humble opinion. It’s where spirit, history and culture co-exist intimately. I’ve been lucky to be invited to climb, swing and dangle behind the scenes at numerous livestock events that were, truly, art in motion.
This one is so special to me. It’s part of a series I spontaneously made in Prescott Valley, Az at a family ranch. I met five-year-old Austin and his father while hanging out with my camera behind the scenes at the World’s Oldest Rodeo. Austin was helping man the gate to the cattle chute. We got to chatting and I was invited out to their family’s ranch to step even furth behind the scenes.
